This job opening will serve to fill a Health Services Assistant - Breastfeeding Peer Counselor vacancy with WIC in Hemet.
Under direct supervision, assists professional staff within the Department of Public Health (DOPH) or other medical staff by providing a variety of client services, which includes basic administrative, clerical, and technical support services for clients/patients and the public; acts as a liaison between the Department of Public Health and the community; and performs other related duties as required.
Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is a para-professional support person with a commitment to promote and support breastfeeding women and their families.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate good communication skills and an understanding of how the cultural attitudes and practices of the community impact breastfeeding.
Duties include, but not limited to:
Provide emotional support to mother and significant other through personal interaction and establishing relationships with participants from diverse backgrounds Provide the mother with advice on aspects of breastfeeding.
Provide anticipatory guidance to reduce the occurrence of problems.
Provide information on the effect of foods, medications, and home remedies on lactation within guidelines addressed in training.
Provide anticipatory guidance and support when returning to work or school.
Follow Referral Protocol and refer to the IBCLC Acts and advocate for breastfeeding in the community.
Collaborate with other programs.
Provide information on additional sources of help to the breastfeeding mother.
Set up and facilitate peer support groups.
Schedule:
9/80, every other Friday off This position will require driving and traveling throughout Riverside County.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
